The Three Stages of Perfect Sleep

It’s a common theme to hear that you need a regular sleep schedule. The reason why this works is because your body then knows what to produce to make you sleepy. But life or work doesn’t always give us the privilege of regular sleep schedules. So somehow you need to signal to your body that it’s time to sleep.

Also you need to relax. Your body has to be able to prepare itself before sleeping. That’s why you’re tossing and turning in your bed. Your body is preparing itself while you want to sleep because it couldn’t before, hence you’re staring at the ceiling unable to fall asleep.

So logically you need to stay away from all screens and start dimming your lights hours before going to bed. While also no work and no physical exercise are allowed in the evening to let your body prepare for the night. And even when you do everything correctly, there is no guarantee that it’ll work. If you’re older, your body will still have difficulties producing the correct hormones.

So we asked ourselves is there another way of getting your body naturally relaxed and to produce the correct hormones to fall asleep?

L-Theanine modulates the activity of a neurotransmitters such as GABA, dopamine and serotonine.

GABA has an inhibitory effects on the central nervous system. In other words it helps to slow down the "busy" signals in your brain, leading to a more relaxed and calm state.

So you’ll be more relaxed both physically and mentally.

It reduces muscle tension, lowers your heart rate, eases symptoms of physical stress (eg. knots in your stomach or tension headaches etc).

L-Theanine naturally increases your serotonine and dopamine levels. Anti-depressants work in a similar way except they don’t do it naturally which makes you dependent on the medication.


Valerian also increases the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA and also affects your serotonine production just like L-Theanine.

But one thing that makes Valerian more special is its ability to inhibit enzyme activity. It basically blocks the production of certain chemicals which break down the “calming neurotransmitters”.

So on one side you get more calming chemicals in the brain and on the other side it blocks the blockers of those chemicals.


Just like L-Theanine and Valerian, Chamomile also increases the GABA activity which promotes calmness and relaxation.

But it goes deeper into the physical relaxation.

Staying Asleep

Now you’re a pro at falling asleep quickly. The next important pillar is staying asleep. Your lifestyle choices and your body will decide if it’ll produce the correct hormones you need. So how do I prevent myself from suddenly waking up at 4am?

Your body needs to produce melatonin. Thanks to melatonin your body knows the difference between day and night. It’s the fuel for the dream car. Pun intended.

All the lifestyle changes you can make to increase melatonine are mentioned in the next part where we reveal the proven formula. To stay asleep during the entire night you need adequate levels of melatonin, if you don’t want to make huge lifestyle changes you should supplement it. It isn’t addictive and you have to know what you’re looking for. Most of the melatonin supplements are annoying to take. It’s usually either a pill or a spray. Alcohol is a sedative drug, and what you're doing there is simply knocking yourself out. Same with sleeping pills. By taking sleeping pills you suppress REM and Deep sleep, which is the opposite of what you want! They’re called sedative hypnotics, and sedation is not sleep, it's very different.

To get you to proper sleep and not sedated sleep, you need to somehow produce a hormone called melatonin. This can possibly be done by habits such as:

  • Consistent sleep schedule
  • No caffeine or alcohol
  • No daytime naps
  • Regular exercise
  • No light exposure in the evening
  • Dark and cool room temperature
  • Exposed to natural light during the day

This would require a huge habit shift for most people, just to get quality sleep. Plus this isn’t even a surefire way of getting melatonin in your system. The older you are the harder it is to produce it. To help your body produce melatonin for sure you should supplement two active compounds. As long as you consume the correct dosages from a well-established brand:

  • consume enough Vitamine B6: this will convert into melatonin in your body.
  • Supplement your melatonin: a healthy amount is about 0.3mg a day.
