Feng Shui in the Bedroom

by Laura VDS on Feb 07, 2024

Your bedroom is not just a room. It is a place where you can find peace, clear your mind and restore your body . According to the principles of feng shui, the ancient Chinese teaching of harmony between people and their environment, the way you decorate your bedroom can affect your sleep .

It may sound a bit vague, but don't worry, in this blog article we keep it practical, fun and applicable.

Which direction do you place your bed?

The position of your bed is the foundation of good feng shui.

  • Make sure you place the bed against a sturdy wall , with the headboard well supported. This will create a sense of security and control.

  • You should be able to see the door from your bed , but not be lying across from it. This is called the “command position”: you have a view of whoever is coming in, without him or her literally barging in.

  • Don't put your bed under a window or a sloping wall. That can cause a restless feeling. And of course you want to avoid that in the bedroom.

If you have no other choice, blackout curtains and a high headboard can still help regulate the 'energy'.

Which colors are good in the bedroom?

The color of your walls influences the atmosphere and mood in your bedroom. In feng shui it is all about the balance between the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water). For the bedroom the focus is on peace and warmth.

  • Earth tones such as sand, beige, taupe and soft yellow create stability and security.

  • Soft pastel colours such as light blue, lavender or mint green create tranquility.

  • Avoid bright colours such as bright red or neon yellow. They make you restless and that is exactly what you do not want at night.

Want to add a romantic touch to your bedroom? Red accents (for example in decorative pillows) can, according to feng shui, help to "rekindle the fire".

The interior: less is more, really!

The bedroom is not a storage space. Or a workspace. Or a fitness room.

  • Minimize: Too much clutter = chaotic = restless sleep.

  • Avoid mirrors facing the bed . They "reflect" energy and can keep your subconscious awake.

  • Ensure symmetry on both sides of the bed . T

  • Use soft lighting . No bright fluorescent light, but dimmers or warm light create a calm atmosphere.

What should you not do just before going to sleep?

The biggest feng shui mistakes are often made in the last 30 minutes before going to sleep.

  • Screens in bed: Your laptop, phone or TV disrupt your energy field and blue light keeps you awake.

  • Discussions or work-related conversations: Stress lingers in the room.

  • Tidying up or reorganizing: According to feng shui, it is indeed important to have a tidy room, but you don't have to tidy up everything last minute. You can do that tomorrow.

What can you do for a better night's sleep?

Feng shui is all about activating the right flow before going to sleep.

  • Ventilate your room: fresh air = fresh energy.

  • Dim the lights and, if desired, light a soothing scented candle (lavender or sandalwood are best).

  • Create a mini ritual : Read a book, have a cup of herbal tea, do a short breathing exercise. This will tell your body it's time to go to sleep.

  • Supplements : By taking No Stress Gummies or Deep Sleep Gummies daily, you create a moment for yourself to deal with stress more consciously. This helps you to tackle your to do's and challenges with confidence.
