Work-life balance: tips for a better balance

Nowadays , work-life balance is a popular word . Everyone emphasizes how important it is, but what if you don't know how to achieve a good balance ? More and more people feel constantly 'on' . They have to be available all the time and feel responsible for everything and anything.

The line between work and private life is quickly blurring , especially now that working from home has become the norm since corona. In this blog article you will find some tips to (re)find your balance.

1. Set clear boundaries

When you work from home, the temptation is great to finish something 'quickly' after work. Prevent your workday from ending in the evening. Agree on fixed start and end times with yourself and then stick to them. Close your laptop, turn off your work phone and leave your workspace.

2. Say no more often

Not every task is urgent and not every request has to be done right away. Saying that you will pick something up later or that it does not fit at the moment can do no harm! It is a sign of self-knowledge and structured planning . Focus on what is really important and dare to delete.

3. Plan your free time too

We plan work appointments down to the minute, but we often leave our free time to chance. Put your free time in your agenda too. What you plan, happens.

4. Get enough exercise

A nice evening walk is not an unnecessary luxury. Not only for your body, but also for your head sufficient movement is very important. A short walk between meetings or a fixed sports evening does wonders for your energy and focus.

5. Don't check your phone all the time

Notifications grab your attention. Turn them off or set fixed times to check your email or apps. You don't always have to respond immediately.

6. Talk about it

Do you notice that you have lost your balance? Do not keep your worries to yourself. Discuss them with your manager, colleagues or friends. Often there is more understanding and space than you think. And sometimes it even helps to just express your worries.
